| You know most of the people here lean more towards the "She has a point" to "She's completely right" side of the spectrum, right? Also, don't just link-dump. It's not how it's done here. | |

| I put my comment in the subject. But you're right, that's not very effective. Let me try again:
Attached are some right-on comments and analysis serving as a good alternative to the brain dead crap-blast we're going from the U.S. thought control machine tomorrow, the 10th anniversary of the 911 tragedy.
U.S. imperialism and Islamic fundamentalism are two evils that feed off each other to the detriment of the world (although imperialism has killed many more millions by far). Both are obsolete and need to go.

With all due respect, go to hell. There were a lot of people, ordinary people, who lost their lives that day. And a lot of heroes who, when duty called, ran into the disaster without regard to their own lives and their own safety. You can separate the tragic events of 9/11 from the idiocy that followed, the heartfelt condolences from the political grandstanding, the anguish from the pablum. But don't you dare show callousness to the souls who paid the ultimate price for the crime of going to work on a Tuesday morning, or for doing their duty. Yes, I'm a little prickly about it. Sue me.

| I think Spotts said it best what needed to be said.
9/11 is a terrible catastrophe. The magnitude of the lives lost is staggering, and to suggest something else as an alternative to remembering the lost, buddy, that's like a middle-finger in the middle of a good teacher's class.

| I'm with Ian and Spotts. I come from a military/service family. Nothing broke my heart more than knowing that the rescue workers and firefighters who went in knew damn well they might not come out, but did it anyway.
People died. Muslims, Christians, atheists, Jews, pagans, Buddhists, Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians. I don't care what their beliefs were. I care that they died senselessly. 9/11 had a large impact on my life, even though I was lucky enough to not lose anybody. And like Spotts said, there is a big difference between the political BS that is going on, and the genuine feelings.
It is a day of mourning for the people who were murdered. Show some respect for them and their families.

| Here's what I remember of 9/11 - sitting in the front room in our old house, watching the second plane hit, those poor bastards jumping to their deaths to escape the fires, Hezbollah and Hamas falling over themselves to take credit, and then the towers coming down with all those people in them. That's all I need to remember, thank you. | |

| This is going to sound really dumb, but is not intended as such:
I learned that buildings are made from really, really toxic shit. I mean, I hadn't even heard of half the chemicals people were dying from when exposed to the dust and rubble. There's been research done around asbestos, but not any of the thousands of other materials that go into the average office. And when it's not burning to the ground... we kinda live in it. All the time.
Something about that just kinda hit me when I saw the giant dust clouds and ash-gray rescue workers in photos who would later have Cancer Growing on Their Cancer.

| I'm not even going to say "with all due respect". I am just going to say go to hell.
What do I remember from that day? I remember waking up and seeing the North Tower on fire and hearing about the plane crash on the news. I remember the panic I felt until I realized it was the North Tower and that my friends were in the South. I remember thinking that they were safe and I would just call them.
I remember watching the second plane fly into the South Tower. I remember watching the South Tower collapse and knowing that my friends were still in it.
Frankly, I don't give a fuck about anything except the people that lost their lives that day, people that included three friends of mine.

| A friend of mine lost a cousin in the 9/11 attacks. He was a firefighter who went to the WTC to help.
I was on my way to work when I heard about the terrorist attack on the radio. At first, I thought, "What, again?" I was remembering the 1993 terrorist attack. A kid from my neighborhood was riding with me. She was more shocked than me (I was 16 when the 1993 attack took place, while she was 8, so I remembered it better than she did).
When we got to the school, I hurried into the library and told my boss what had happened. We tried to look it up on the Internet, but a large proportion of the world was trying to look it up on the Internet, so it wasn't working. The teachers all wanted to check out TVs, but then found that they couldn't get reception without cable, which the district didn't have (we still don't). Then everyone wanted radios, but all the boom boxes been checked out the week before, and most people had taken them home for lesson planning. The principal had a working radio in his office, so he kept us up to date on what was happening until we could get the Internet to work again.
Everyone was in shock, and no one knew what to think. We weren't anywhere near where the attacks took place (this is California), but no one knew what was going to happen or if there would be attacks on our region (there's an Air Reserve Base about 3 miles from the school, and we're within 2 hours of LA and San Diego).
I talked about 9/11 with an elderly friend who was old enough to remember two other shocking, generation-defining moments in American history--Pearl Harbor and the assassination of JFK. His view? "They'll catch Osama bin Laden, and one day 9/11 will be something kids get wrong on history tests."
That's my 9/11 story. | |

| Ten years today.
I was twelve. We were living on Fort Bragg. I walked into my history class. The news was on. And suddenly it switched over. To this woman. A reporter. She was really scared.
And then it changed to the second tower. Being hit.
And there were all these people screaming. And I didn't understand.
My mom was so scared she came and got us from school. She kept a copy of the newspaper in the curio.
Everything changed for us after that. Everything was frightening.
Oh fuck, I started crying when I started this post. I don't have anything else to say about this. I don't.
Rest in peace | |

I know people who lost family and friends that day. I've lost a few friends over in that fucking sand box because of what some did, and for you to sit there and say that shit is like spitting in their faces. I don't care about anyone's religion or their beliefs.Thousands died and are still dying over bullshit that should have never happened.
That's all I need and want to remember. Whether you agree with the war or not don't you dare try to stomp on those people's memories with some shit like this.

| Even if all the theories are totally wrong and 9/11 really was a terrorist attack by the Al Quaeda (and let me tell you I doubt that) America sure jumped to attack Iraq awful quick...
This was how WWI kicked off - Archduke Ferdinanz and his wife were shot dead by a splinter terrorist group that were NOT supported by the Serbian government. And sure as all hell Serbia grovelled and they were not happy in any way but holy SHIT but Austria-Hungary was pissed off and declared war. Germany backed them up, Russia was allied with Serbia, France was allied with Russia, Great Britain was allied with France, all of Great Britain's empire was obligated to Britain... and you know the rest.
And we were supposed to never forget that.
It seems we did.
It wasn't just those people in the Twin Towers who we shouldn't forget... all the death that happened overseas matters as well. The country of Iraq torn apart by what basically amounted to an invasion by America... Yes, I know Saddam was an asshole but he sure wasn't the only guy in the Middle East with Al Quaeda in his country. Just the best target.
And the American government has the audacity to keep acting like America is the sole victim in this... thing. The martyr. Do we go around calling Austria-Hungary the martyr and victim for invading Serbia, do we?
I'm not trying to debunk all those people in the towers. I'm just saying that theirs aren't the only ones we should never forget.

| We didn't have television (still don't), only heard it mentioned on the radio and thought it was a crazy, tragic accident. Once they said the second tower was hit I called a friend and asked if we could come over and watch it there. It was past 3pm for us, and when I met up with friends that night, maybe six hours later, TV was showing Kabul being bombed- and I distinctly remember the thought that this was it. You know how they say World War IV will be fought with sticks and rocks? I was looking at the TV thinking that I might get to see that, in my lifetime. Also, I'd been on top of the WTC not three weeks prior, and I have video footage of me and a friend messing around and being silly up there, I have very clear memories of the lobby and the mall and metro station underneath, and the thought that none of that was there anymore was -and is- too big to wrap my head around. And then there's this, which only doesn't give me nightmares because I don't really dream: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Because I didn't really know anybody... and I'm quite sad I can't sympathise very well with those that have lost loved ones... I chose to remember that not everyone who died because of the 9/11 events died on that day, but they were (and still are) being effected and that's a tragedy in itself. | |

Because to point out all of the mistakes in your previous post it would require for us to write an essay, just go actually listen to a history class.
