Okay, so in effect this is a Wonder Woman make up line is a cross-promotion between M-A-C and DC comics that is at best a way to get girls reading comics, and a worst certainly not as bad as some some other make-up lines, at least in this case the celebrity model/endorsement is defined by far more than her looks.
But then... This commercial comes out and... well... see for yourself:
Okay, so I'm out of my element here talking about makeup, but even I can see that this advert doesn't quite capture the female empowerment vibe that Wonder Woman is usually associated with.
Your thoughts?

I'll take your point, but she's changed quite a bit from the silver age when she was written by a polygamist with a bondage fetish, yes?
I'll admit I don't read Wonder Woman, (or DC at all for that matter) but I'm assured by other comic nerds that the 30-40-odd year old depictions you've printed aren't representative of her current status. I stand by my statement.

Is it wrong that I thought the "Plain Janes" were better looking without the makeup?

It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was thinking that Wonder Woman would be screaming "MY MAKEUP! NOO! I'M NOT A REAL WOMAN NOW!"
And Doobie, she's the FIRST female to have her own comic. Yeah, there was a lot of 'sexy' scenes, but that's partly because they needed to also have the boys reading the comic. Well and the guy was into bondage.

Having actually read some of the Golden Age Wonder Woman comics, I can assure you that, despite the frequent bondage, she always managed to get loose and take out the bad guys in the end.
And Cat is right, almost ANY comic from that era that had a female heroine in it had her ending up in some form of bondage (hell, half the time, the male superhero ended up tied up as well).

I can assure you, as someone in their element talking about make-up, this is incredibly stupid.
Mac, in the past, has focused its advertising based around creativity and versatility in make-up. Basically being able to do things that are normally impossible for effect. It's not unfeminist to see make-up as a tool for, you know, having giant inch-long glittery eyelashes for the hell of it, or technicolor eyelids. Nobody is pretending that it is normal or necessary. When they try to push the lien based around female empowerment, simply because it is make-up they bring up the other side of make-up. Which, as cleverly summed up by someone else is, the "ugly-to-normal" factor. Some girls wear make-up every day not to look like painted-up whores, but because they feel like without it they are below-average and make-up brings them up to normal. (as opposed to wearing it to enhance an already average or pretty face) When you stress the ugly-to-normal factor, you take away women's options with make-up as a tool of creativity and make it a requirement for basic socialisation.

MAC's had some real blunders with their advertising before. Remember the Jaurez debacle? Some fashion house (I think it was Rodarte) teamed up with them for a collection based on Mexico. Or was it exclusively Jaurez? Instead of bright and fun, Mexican-ish colors it was about women who were so exhausted from overwork at the maquilladoras that they were practically sleepwalking. Apparently, Jaurez is a hellhole for women. Lots of women are either assaulted or murdered there and feminists along with Amnesty International have been talking about it for years. This collection reeked of exploitation of a very serious issue and made big news in the online beauty community. MAC pledged to donate profits to relief orgs but ultimately had the collection scrapped. They do have an AIDS donation program, though.
Besides, their actual makeup has been steadily declining in quality for years.

What super hero hasn't died at least once?
Sometimes they come back with some half-assed explanation that often buttfucks continuity, sometimes they never were dead, sometimes they have the decency to stay dead, sometimes they come back as a black guy.

You, troll-boy.
Oh MAC, why? Wonder Woman is awesome, make-up is fun, and combined, they should have worked.
