Apparently he died from complications arising from multiple sclerosis.

Oh man, that's really sad news. The man was just nuts enough you thought he might have lived forever. We're going to lose a lot of the greats from the '60s and '70s over the next decade.

I heard of him through Robert Rankin's books, Robert being a proponant of all things sprout. Heard some of his stuff as a result and thought he had something, not sure what... heh, shame to see another talented guy go.
