I really, really wish I could snark. Maybe come up with some kind of incisive observation. But hell . . . the Taliban said they did it. They murdered ten aid workers who were doing nothing more than trying to help some people. What. The. Fuck.

statement acquired by the AP, the Taliban also said the team was
carrying Dari language bibles and "spying gadgets."

Riiiight. Spying . . . in a remote mountain area where fifty thousand people make their living as subsistence farmers. Must be of huge strategic importance. And maybe they might have been carrying bibles because, y'know, some of them were Christian? Nah.

This has little to do with religion, it's about mantaining control of the territory. If they had been Muslim doctors, they'd have been shot for being Pakistani spies - what matters is that no one enters the area or does business without approval of the local clan.

Medical help? No problem, the clan may arrange a trip to a nearby hospital for those in need* just as long as you are not already on the shitlist for something or other. We Talibans are not evil, you know.

*and you'd better remember you owe us one in case the USMC knock on the door and we need to hide.
