| 2 Utah Employees On Leave. - Quote :
- Utah officials said Friday they have identified at least two state workers who apparently accessed confidential documents to create a list of 1,300 purported illegal immigrants that was mailed to law enforcement officials and the news media.
Gov. Gary Herbert said the employees work for the Department of Workforce Services, which administers food stamp programs and other public benefits. The employees have been placed on administrative leave, and the state attorney general will determine whether to file criminal charges. Yeah, these "fine, upstanding civil servants" sent out a list that contained 1,300 names (mostly of Hispanic origin), addresses, birthdates, work addresses, and in some cases Social Security Numbers and due dates for pregnant women and claimed they were all illegal immigrants. What annoys me is the comments claiming that these employees are heroes and should be given a bonus. You know, completely ignoring the fact that they broke the law! Even illegal immigration opponents were appalled - Quote :
- The governor didn't deny his frustration over what he sees as inaction on illegal immigration from the federal government. He said invading privacy and breaking state and federal law to do it just pours "kerosene on the fire" that is the debate.
"This tactic by these rogue employees to go out and to single out these individuals and their families, and in some cases falsely accusing people of an illegal status is, in fact, deplorable and is, in fact, counterproductive to dealing with the issue that ought to be the focus and that is the illegal immigration issue," Herbert said. - Quote :
- Alex Segura is the founder of the Utah Minutemen Project. Tony Yapias is a Latino community leader. The two would never agree on something, right?
At a press conference Friday afternoon, they did. Segura and Yapias came together to ask for civility in the immigration debate. They agreed this list of immigrants has brought out a lot of ugliness on both sides of the issue.
Segura and Yapias have argued before and still don't agree on everything today. Yapias thinks the immigration debate is a federal issue; Segura feels it should be handled at the state level. When even a member of the freakin' Minutemen thinks you've gone too far on opposing illegal immigration, you're really out there.

| My question is, what's going to be done to the people who leaked the information I spent enough years working for various doctors to know that this sort of information is supposed to be sacrosanct-we were never allowed to give out the slightest bit of information on a patient unless we received a signed release from the patient allowing us to send their information to another doctor. And that was usually in cases of seeing specialists. These people had absolutely NO reason to release this information exception that apparently, once again, they're afraid that someone who isn't white and Mormon like them is illegally living in in THEIR country (never mind that THEIR country belonged to the Native Americans, who'm they killed off or assimmilated into THEIR CULTURE).
Would Mormons allow Native Americans to become Mormons? They wouldn't allow blacks until the US Supreme Court Threatened to force them at; at which point one of their 'Prophets' had a revelation that God said it was okay to let black people into the church. Turned out it didn't matter, because everyone in Heaven will be miracullously turn white anyway.

| It depends. If they had legitimate access to the information and misused it, it's 1,300 misdemeanor counts.
If they stole the information, it's 1,300 felony counts.
Not to mention the violations of HIPAA that could mean federal time on top of the state time.

If they stole the information, it's 1,300 felony counts. Considering how corrupt and money driven the justice system in the U.S. is, I'm sure they can get a bulk deal.
