Let's start with..

1. We already have "fundamentally sound" basketball. It's called the WNBA. Check the attendance rates and see how many people are clamoring for that sort of thing.
   
2. Do we want a league where words like "athletic", "above the rim", and "playmaker" are replaced with "fundamentally sound" and "scrappy"?
   
3. Do guys like Steve Nash, Pau Gasol or Manu Ginobili not count as "white?"
   
4. Our bright young friend does realize that potential sponsors would avoid him like the plague, right?
   

Part of me hopes he gets this off the ground, just to see what kind of trailer trash dregs actually sign up.

Actually, trailer trash would probably be a better quality of player than this guy can hope for. This idea reeks of Olympic-caliber fail.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that he's probably just xenophobic. It's relatively common for people to want to segregate themselves into homogenized groups without animosity towards people who are different from them.

PS just tangentally, it kind of gives the lie to all this hysteria about gender testing because OMG WHAT IF A MAN DRESSES UP AS A WOMAN AND STEALS ALL THE MEDALS, doesn't it? Women's sports in general aren't nearly as glamorous or even as lucrative as men's sports.

Not true for many sports (Tennis chief among them IMHO). Basketball... ain't one of them. It it slower, lower, and generally inferior to the men's game. There are some transcendent female players out there, but not nearly enough of them to make it interesting. Deal.

That's more of a thing with baseball, I'd imagine. I find it easy to believe that there's Cubans, Haitians, Dominicans, and Mexicans all over the minor leagues with dubious legal status.

Really, the underlying problem is that we all pretend that professional sports matter. That illusion has driven a billion-dollar industry. It's insane.
