NBC 26 of Green Bay had a rather interesting commentary to the referee debacle...

So they're remaking Rise of the Triad. And apparently properly, with all the original nutty weapon concepts, the same plot, the same awesome music and most importantly mid 90s style levels that require exploration and backtracking rather than encounter->cutscene->encounter->cutscene. The multiplayer mode was tested at Quakecon and was insanely fast compared to most modern shooters (although it had a few graphical glitches and the weapons were horribly unbalanced).

There's even a vid of them rendering "The Room", what I found to be the hardest level in the original game, made entirely so by having nothing but puzzles, switches, pushwalls and environmental traps, cumulating in you having to outrun a fireball to get to the exit. Not a single enemy NPC in sight.

Now that's going to be a very good game if they actually stick with all that and deliver it. But they've only been working on it for 5 months and are expecting to finish within 4, which is a big ask (although they had a working multiplayer mode based on the Unreal Tech at Quakecon at the start of August), so I'm worried about them releasing a glitchy shitpile that they never sell enough copies of to be able to fix.

They are going to reboot Soul Reaver. I personally don't find this good at all, looking at DmC, Tenchu and other failed reboots, this will not go well. They should just call it a new IP instead of fucking up like Capcom did. Why do people feel that reboot solve everything? They do not!

Meh, never watched either, so I can't judge there. Still, in never in most video games cases. Hardly ever.

Reboots work the same way as sequels - it all depends on how they're handled as an individual artifact - they're not, in any way, influenced by their position as sequel or reboot.

Expendables 2 is far better than Expendables - this is not affected by it as a sequel, the same cannot be said of the Resident Evil Sequels.

Amazing Spiderman is terrible regardless that it is a reboot, Star Trek kicks all forms of ass and resurrected not only a dead franchise, but one that had been pounded well and truly into the ground - and then has Enterprise inflicted on it.
