| Story here - Quote :
- ne day after the Herald reported some surprised Bay State inmates - including murderers and rapists - were cashing in $250 stimulus checks, federal officials revealed the same behind-bars bonus was mailed to nearly 4,000 cons nationwide.
Well, it's not really going to do them much good behind bars... Unless they're going to use it to bribe guards for cigarettes, porn or something else. - Quote :
- A federal watchdog is now probing how the cons were cut the checks. The same cash also may have been sent to fugitive felons, people kicked out of the country and even individuals now deceased.
Isn't it nice to know that your hard-earned tax dollars went to keep people on the lam? I'm sure the dead people will love their stimulus checks in the afterlife. - Quote :
- Social Security Administration spokesman Stephen Richardson said yesterday none of the prisoner recipients receive monthly Social Security benefits, meaning they should not qualify for a stimulus check. Such benefits are generally cut off to the incarcerated.
Basically what happened was these people were arrested after the act was passed, their social security numbers didn't match properly, they weren't listed as prisoners or other glitches. - Quote :
- Only five Massachusetts prisoners have enough cash left to pay the government back, the DOC said.
Out of twenty-three, that's not a good ratio. Reminds me of a quote I once read: - Quote :
- To err may be human, but to really mess things up requires a bureaucracy.

| As a resident of the Bay State, I am embarrassed beyond words that this happened in my neck of the woods. | |

| Why? This state makes a giant fuck up of everything it touches. You may as well be embarrassed of a clown having tacky shoes. | |

| This one in particular. It tries to be the California of the East Coast and winds up being ten times worse. Ridiculous laws and taxes of all varieties, gentrified solid from one border to the other, and famously corrupt, because this is where the Big Dig happens. Also, my town is a special kind of shithole. I call it the Hellmouth. GE dumped PCBs into the ground here, and then sold it as potting soil. Now the place is chock full of retards, and every meaningful business has picked up and left, making the towns drying tourism industry (fall colors, skiing, other rich person horseshit) its only source of revenue, which in turn caused the local government to actively oppose it becoming a Superfund area since that wouldn't look good for the hoity-toity artist shitfucks, so it'll never get cleaned up and it'll just keep on fucking dying, like the goddamned West Virginia of the California of the East Coast. | |

| I personally like the state I live in. I've liked everywhere I've lived except Virginia. Everywhere has its own benefits and flaws. So all this state-hate is a bit over-the-top. It's not like you live in Florida, which must have a hellmouth hidden in that lake its so full of motherfucking evil. | |

| Considering that it's $100,000 out of a $13 billion dollar plan, I'm not seeing it as as big a deal as people are making it out to be. Mistakes were bound to be made in an enterprise this big, and the story says it was due to inaccurate Social Security number information. They're making it out as if Obama is throwing tons of money at convicts on purpose, when in reality, a tiny percentage (in the low single digits if my calculations are correct) of the money was lost through a series of small clerical errors. Reactionistic. Overinflated. Bad journalism.
But I'm willing to hate Massachusetts if y'all are so set on it. | |
