Dr. Pepper's new diet soda has an ad campaign with the tagline "It's not for women."
Well, it wasn't like I was going to drink it anyway (that brand has always tasted nasty to me), but I was rather appalled when I saw this on TV today. As if there wasn't enough misogyny in commercials already! At least they don't seem to have as many of those Hardee's ads here in Michigan...they're on constantly in North Carolina.

I think they were going for a rip on the Old Spice Guy/Most Interesting Man In The World/Bud Light "Man Up" style commercials. Except they missed "funny" and hit "insulting."

Which was really only half-funny because Old Spice is a men-only product anyway. it's like telling us that pads with wings aren't for men.
Products that are, for the most part, unisex, should not be advertised in such a way, in my not-so-humble opinion.
Also: I would love to see a commercial for alcohol that involves a woman drinking it.
Not serving it with cleavage (all beer ever) Not Dancing around it (Stella Artois) Not suddenly grabbing a guy's arm who is drinking it. (crown royal)
Working hard, then buying herself a nice beer. Oh, wait, women don't buy themselves alcohol.
Creepily enough, women can be taken apart and used to represent alcohol itself, but not drink it. The closest you will see is a woman holding a glass.

I turned my avatar to this awhile ago and I just realized it would be a good addition to this thread.
Jeez that's a creepy clown! He likes to do everything boys and girls like to do!

Okay...this is actually a game trailer on The Escapist not a TV commercial, but I feel it still qualifies.
Qualifies as a complete mindfuck as well. You have been warned.

I get that not everyone is going to know Aaron Rogers or his TD celebration. But the yuppie couple here doesn't seem to know what a quarterback is.
This commercial enrages me far more than it should.

Fun fact: in some countries Dr. Pepper is used as a substitute for rat poison.
Seriously, Kirby, you're right; that commercial sucks big-time.

See, what you guys don't realize is that what that Dr. Pepper commercial is actually trying to tell you is that their product contains toxoplasma. It causes miscarriages and sterility, ergo, women shouldn't drink it.

I would like to nominate this advert:
because IT'S BEAUTIFUL AND IT MAKES ME CRY OKAY
and that's terrible, because my friends make fun of me now because of this.

What is that commercial even for?! Is some company actually making a pizza shaped like a boomerang? I'm not sure HOW that would ever get clearance to be shown on TV.

Firstly, I don't think clearance is the word you're looking for. Secondly, this commercial is shown because the advertizers paid good money to the channels to have them show it. Simple as that.
I think it's glorious, by the way.

I'm sorry if I chose the wrong word. What I meant was, how did it get past whatever TV-monitoring organization that country has? I know not all countries are as strict about content as America is, but this seems a bit extreme.
Anyway...
"My mother worked hard to put a home-cooked meal on the table, and I'm just going to be a little snot and pine for processed, fakey macaroni and cheese!"
Sadly, I think this is accurate to how a lot of kids would behave. And I admit to actually liking processed, fakey macaroni and cheese...but there's a time and place for everything.

Still not sure what you mean, love. The ad is ridiculous, granted, but I'm not entirely sure how it's offensive, except maybe to someone's good taste.

I think the copious (however fake) amounts of blood and the whole showing a severed penis thing kind of crosses the line, although the rest of it is fine. They'd get away with even the implication that it cut off his penis, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an advertising standards authority in any country that would allow the showing of severed genitals in a daytime slot. Maybe after the watershed.

Weeell, chalk that one up to my short attention span, because I have no idea how I possibly missed that. Sorry.
Now the commercial is even more glorious, but yeah, not exactly family friendly. Maybe the awesomeness of the Pizza Boomerang can only be fully appreciated by the late night crowd?
