It is as the title says.
Quote :
As many as two gunmen launched an attack Monday morning inside the Washington Navy Yard, spraying gunfire on office workers in the cafeteria and in the hallways at the heavily secured military installation in the heart of the nation's capital, authorities said. At least 12 people were killed.
At this early hour, the media really doesn't know what the fuck happened. Naturally, this hasn't stopped them from speculating six ways from Sunday.
There may or may not have been more than one gunman.
He/they may or may not have been civilian contractor(s)
It may or may not have been terrorism
It may or may not have been workplace violence.
And so forth.
I, for one, blame either the Muslims or the goddamn Japs. Every time a military base in the US is attacked, it's the Muslims or the goddamn Japs.
Quote :
One gunman was dead after he fired on a police officer, and police hunted for a second possible attacker who may have been disguised in a military-style uniform, authorities said. It wasn't clear how the gunman died.
My guess is lead poisoning.
My big issue here is the Navy calling water a yard. Yards are dirt and grass. Whatever this is, is water and buggery. Standard Navy antics.

In March 1993 President Clinton issued an executive order declaring all military bases in the United States to be gun free zones. Therefore the problem is solved and this shooting is impossible.

Oh, you mean Army Regulation 190-14, the law that further clarified the edicts put down in DoD Directive 5210.56 ... The latter of which was enacted by the H.W. Bush administration?
The regulation that wouldn't have applied to the Navy yard shooting anyway, since it's specific to army bases?
But you just keep saying it's all Clinton's fault like a good little Dittohead.

I think you missed his point. His point isn't that Clinton was somehow at fault for this. His point is that saying that people aren't allowed to walk into a military base with a firearm isn't going to stop them from shooting their way onto a military base by using firearms.
Especially if the goddamn Navy is stupid enough to continue to allow access to the base to a mental defective with a history of arrests for gun crimes, and a history of disciplinary problems while still actually IN the Navy.

No, he's pretty much saying that if personnel had been armed, the shooter would've been stopped much sooner. Which makes some pretty large assumptions about how many employees - enlisted or otherwise -would arm themselves and how many of them would've been in position to stop Aaron Alexis sooner. Or wouldn't have gotten shot anyway.
Incidents like this always bring out the armchair Rambos.

He probably name "checked" Clinton because Clinton was the one to sign that executive order. Name "checking" President Coolidge would have been inaccurate.
Also, you can piss and moan about "armchair Rambos" all you want, but the fact is this was only stopped because people with guns shot Alexis.
This still ignores the biggest problem, that this obvious fuck up was allowed to stroll through the front gate. Going to my cousin's wedding at West Point back about 2004ish, they searched our car before we were allowed on the base. The firefighter with no history of legal trouble needed thorough searching, but the man with ALL SORTS of conduct issues is allowed through the door without so much as a frisking.

Men trained to handle firearms, not Joe Schmoe with a pawn shop S&W.

This is a sad, undeniable truth.

I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about a Navy yard. Sailors typically get familiarization training with the M9 in basic, and that's it, unless their job is specifically related to firearms like master-at-arms. Joe Schmoe is far more likely to be proficient with his "pawn shop S&W" than any given seaman. It's not much different for the other branches, either; even the Marines who still insist "every Marine a rifleman." Well, unless you're a grunt or a cop, not so much. Of those, any not actively in training or out "on the job" will be unarmed the vast majority of the time. For more details, and why blaming this all on Clinton is pretty damn stupid, see here.
Probably the worst thing about this woeful training is society's perception that the military and cops are firearms experts, or at least uniformly proficient, which feeds into the egos of servicemen and cops who wind up believing that due to one day of training a year ago and the uniform, they know WTF they're doing... and then start playing "the trust game," come down with a case of "Glock leg," or otherwise doing completely stupid shit because they've been led to believe they know what they're doing.

So penguin are you suggesting that naval officers learn how to use guns other than the basic M9 training?

Not specifically. I'm saying that going on about "men trained to handle firearms" is a textbook example of much ado about nothing.

Penguin's right...we sailors re-qualify on our weapons once a year tops, with the possible exception of Seabees who do actual boots-on-the-ground deployment.

So, when I saw "Shooting in Washington Naval Yard" I got all excited because something finally, FINALLY, happened in Washington State, but no. Looks like Washington will still be a goody goody state.

If it makes you feel any better, Seattle spawns nothing but evil and not-good-ness. Like the Seahawks, their clueless, insufferable fans, Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, the only group of colossal faggots on Earth who give the tiniest shit about the MLS, and the whiner SuperSonics fans.
Fuck Seattle.

Washington is known unofficially [and incorrectly, but this is not reporting on facts but popular opinion] as the serial killer state. SO YES NOTHING HAPPENS THERE EVER.
