- KEVIN Rudd's dramatic comeback as Labor leader created headlines around the world.
International reaction to Prime Minister Julia Gillard's political demise and Mr Rudd's sensational takeover as Labor boss was also big news far away from Australian soil.
I was kind of hoping for this to happen. Rudd did some dumb things in the months before the 2010 election, the worst being supporting mandatory internet filtering, but I think he deserves a second chance. The respill couldn't have come at a better time, given how many people are badly disappointed with Gillard's lies, spin and wholesale incompetence. I had high hopes for our first female PM and she dashed them against the jagged rocks of not having a spine or a brain. CNN - Quote :
- Her rival, former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, takes her place as party leader, after winning the internal ballot in a 57-45 vote, according to an ALP spokesman.
He is now Australia's de facto prime minister and could be sworn in within hours, if Australian Governor-General Quentin Bryce approves him for the office. The governor-general represents Queen Elizabeth II as head of state. - Quote :
- Rudd's supporters within the ALP circulated a petition calling for him to challenger Gillard's leadership, but he initially refrained. In the meantime, at least eight of the ministers in Gillard's Cabinet resigned, purging decades of experience from her government.
Including Stephen Conroy, the dipshit who authored the ISP-level internet filter plan and fucked up the National Broadband Network. Our intertubes will be much better off without him. This respill changes the game completely. If the Liberals keep Abbott as leader and Malcolm Turnbull (who the wider public actually likes) stays in the shadows, nothing short of voter fraud or divine intervention is going to help the Coalition. If I can secure the crossbench seat in my electorate, I could see myself wheeling and dealing my way into a Rudd-led Cabinet. With Gillard as PM, Labor was headed straight for political oblivion. Gillard is not only spineless and idiotic, she doesn't connect well with voters and often talks down to people on the street. Rudd, on the other hand, is a political rockstar who isn't afraid to reach out to younger voters and use social media to his advantage. | |
