| At least they eventually got her out... - Quote :
- Joyce Gembecki of Sanford went for a drive and ended up stuck in a water-filled ditch 25 miles west of Jacksonville for three days.
Gembecki, who lives at Serenity Towers on the St. Johns over-55 apartment community, was expected to be released today from Baptist Medical Center Downtown in Jacksonville, where she was being treated for dehydration and to regulate her body temperature, authorities said.
She left home Monday and ended up 150 miles away, where she drove down a dirt road into a state forest — and a ditch filled with several feet of water, Baker County Sheriff Joey Dobson said.
When a Florida Forest Service ranger on patrol rescued her Thursday, the water covered Gembecki's lap and the hood of her car. It's unknown whether she couldn't open the door or was simply too frightened to try.
"She was certainly confused, but I would have been confused if I was sitting in a car for three days without food or water," Dobson said.
A caregiver who looks after Gembecki plans to pick her up today, the sheriff said. Gembecki has no family, he said. This would be far sadder if it weren't so... stereotypical.

| That article is awfully brief. I wonder if there was a search going on for her; one would think that the caregiver would be concerned after she didn't show up after a few hours. | |

I have to assume a missing person report was filed, but what can you really do when the person you're looking for gets that lost?
