I also don't think it's fair to brand it as "Not!Middle Earth", when the only similarity is that it's a fantasy series set in a fictional world based on a dark ages setting (with late-medieval technology). The series is nothing like Lord of the Rings - there's no clear good/evil divide, and no masses of monstrous creatures for the humans to fight. It's much more of a War of the Roses style story, with noble houses vying with each other for power, and plotting and scheming. It's not always clear who the good and evil characters are. Ned Stark isn't exactly a paragon of virtue either, judging by his fathering bastards and helping to exterminate House Targaryen so that he can put his friend on the throne.

Quote :
The reason this Freya Leo character is a Sue without question is because A) no way would Tywin Lannister father a bastard - and if by some VERY SLIM chance he did, he would kill her and her mother on sight rather than have them taint his precious reputation/House, B) all bastards have common names that vary from place to place in Westeros, and "Leo" is not one of those names, and C) no fucking way would Robb, the heir to his father's House, marry a bastard girl who's the daughter of one of his greatest enemies. Robb is a fool for love, too, but he's NOT that foolish. No way.

That, and the fact that the author has to make a point of quoting her physical prowess. Why do fanfiction authors always do this? Someone can be skillful at fighting/archery/whatever without it being necessary for them to obtain a ranking amongst the other canon characters. Can't she be a good shot without being better than everyone except Theon Greyjoy?

Also, why do they always have to be extremely rude and impudent, and never suffer the consequences of this? I know it's cool to be spunky and rebellious, but surely there are better ways of doing this than having everyone look on in stunned silence as she interrupts the Lord of Winterfell?
