| [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Here we have a mercifully short fanfic where absolutely NO letter is capitalized, except for the brief capslock here: - Quote :
- he looked back into the ship's bay & thought of his son, rook, who @ this moment was tucked in his cot or maybe being comforted in chardi's lap. he balled his hand into a fist to fight the urge to slam it into the entryway button & seal the door. a constant thought ran through his mind & was gaining momentum: "we've got to go now. we've got to go NOW. go now now go now go NOW--"
Seriously, WHAT. Never mind that the story is garbage, but come on! If you can capitalize a whole WORD in CAPSLOCK, what the hell is wrong with using caps PROPERLY? also they are using chatspeak sprinkled into this fic! - Quote :
- shadow loomed through the thick smoke up ahead. ang-kor's eyes stung w/ sweat & smoke, but he could make out the dull grey hull of the glimmer, her engines humming in wait, the entryway invitingly open.
then as ang-kor w/ his children walked past into the relative safety of the ship's loading bay, "i was about to give up on you, ang-kor."
Now I'm a pretty lazy bastard but even I won't shorten 'with' to w/... They also do something that appears in the first quote above, which is use @ for "at". Dear GOD WHY. - Quote :
- "sorry for snapping @ you like that, turk. didn't mean to. i was afraid we'd be left."
I swear these kids should have their mobile texting devices confiscated until they learn how to write properly, if they're going to churn out abominations like this.

| Someone not using proper capitalization bugs me. I know they think what's the big deal you can still read and understand the story, but appearance is important. The presentation of the sory makes a big difference whether people realize it or not. If a story is grammatically correct, has correct punctuation, and capitalization I'm going to look at it more optimistically. Also, if the author doesn't care enough about the story to put in a little time and not use chat speak then why should the reader? | |

Neither have I, and I've seen a lot of lazy textspeak shortcuts in fic. This and @ by far takes the cake.

| This is just one step from rolling your forehead on the keyboard and calling it a novel. | |
