Has anyone hosted public readings of say, excerpts of some of the worst(best) pieces?

Haven't sorted out the legal implications yet, but I'm considering organizing something in LA for Downtown Art Walk.

Not sure how public it is but a small, local fanfic con has midnight readings of some of the worst.
