I just find it amusing that this particular group of crazy fundies have decided that he's enduring the level of persecution Job did. When the locust show up to destroy his crops, his family is killed in a horrible tragedy AND all his livestock withers away and die, then I might possibly be able to work up an "Oh, Sorry about that, Steve." Given that he's still working in Hollywood and making movies (crappy ones, but then, he never made anything but crappy movies to begin with), and despite being millions of dollars in debt due to mismanaged funds, and he's got people who probably can't afford it sending him money, all I can do is laugh and point.

If you want a good pop culture example of the devil-as-tool, watch Futurama episodes "Hell Is Other Robots" and "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings." The devil lacks autonomy; in the former episode, he's essentially a puppet for the Church of Robotology, and in the latter episode, he can only get what he wants through "a ridiculously circuitous plan."

Why not? He's one of the Baldwin brothers? Because this group needed a martyr to devote themselves too? I long ago gave up trying to figure out why people do what they do. It's impossible to understand their logic unless you actually know them, and all you end up with is a headache trying to figure it out on your own.

So, Hollywood actors and Biblical patriarchs apparently have something in common? Perhaps an advert like this would have worked better: Skint hotheaded Christians in need of donations.
