Grandma-smothering teen necrophile denied release from jail

The name of the 79-year-old victim cannot be published because it
would identify the accused, who was 14 years old at the time of the
killing.

The man, now 19, pleaded guilty in December 2005 to first-degree
murder and received the maximum youth sentence of six years closed
custody followed by four years open custody.


The man was seeking a court order converting his sentence to open
custody two years ahead of schedule, a move that would have made him
eligible for extended, unescorted passes outside jail.


Judge Patti Umpherville said the man has made progress while in custody but remains a serious danger.


“I cannot ignore the seriousness of the offence he committed and his
blatant, violently sexual behaviour during it,” Umpherville said. “I
truly commend (his) progress and his commitment to change ... but (his)
interests cannot and does not overshadow the interests of society.


The victim’s nude mutilated body was found stuffed in her bedroom
closet by police on June 7, 2004, after her daughter found the Fort
Garry home ransacked and the victim’s grandson lying on her bed.


The man had smothered his grandmother with a pillow while she was
asleep. Court heard he attempted to have sex with the corpse, spray-painted her genitals and defiled her body with a knife. He also
poisoned his grandmother’s dog with anti-freeze.

I'd say that there's an extremely morbid mother-in-law joke to be made in that last sentence, but I'm still just getting over the "spray-painted junk" thing.

I can agree with that, nothing wrong with violent fantasies. Of course he could've used a more healthy outlet, than her grandma. Personally, I prefer art, but I guess once that no longer gets me the attention I crave, I'll just have to buy a kitchen knife and kill some pretty young girl.

Also, am I the only one, who thought this thread was about a kick-ass grandma, who killed her grandson?

Damn, that's disturbing. I'd be extremely wary of letting him out now - maybe, maybe after several more years in which he hopefully gets plenty of therapy. And he's one I would want monitored for awhile after he got out.

Yes - BUT, if he is a pyschopath, with no conscience whatsoever and no emotions of remorse or guilt, then if he wants to be free he will lie and charm his way out, pretend to be sorry, pretend to be cured - if he can do so convincingly - and then when he's out, he may strike again, if that's what he wants to do.

Yeah, I wouldn't let this sick bastard out until he's pushing 90. Maybe not even then.

You do have a point, and I guess we'll just have to hope that for the prison mental system will actually work properly and that he won't be able to fake it. And again, as a failsafe (though I do recognize even it has flaws), monitoring for a lengthy period of time upon release, if that's legal in Winnipeg. I suppose it probably isn't, if he's served his full sentence.

This kid needs some serious rehabilitation before they let him out.

Not the kind of guy you want out on the streets. I also doubt he could be rehabilitated. He had no problem killing family, I doubt he'd even think twice about raping some stranger's corpse.

Lock him up and throw away the key. He smothered his grandmother, and then raped and defiled the corpse. At age fourteen. Having proven that he has no problem with murder, incest, necrophilia, and a lot more, I think we can safely say that this is one sick fuck who should not be given the opportunity to try again.

Normally I'd always be the one thinking "fuck you gaiz stop condemning people just because you're squicked/terrified/unfamiliar/angry/whatever" but no. There's a serious leap between having and enjoying more destructive violent fantasies and going through with them in real life, and there'd have to be some amazing progress to convince me he'd know better than to act on them again.
