Uh, yeah. I'm not saying I wouldn't be over the moon if someone handed me ten Benjamins, but a thousand dollars isn't going to get you a lifetime supply of cocaine, especially if it's good cocaine. And I'm willing to bet this woman tasted the good life if she was familiar enough to get into the back of this guy's car and party for a few hours. And cocaine is priced pretty high in Canada. Not as bad as NZ, but pretty expensive.

I just don't know... something about this story just doesn't add up. $1000 is chump change for any half-decent Canadian coke dealer. And even if she did owe him money and couldn't pay him back, don't you think she'd try to avoid him until she could? Especially if he had a reputation? Sure, she could have been desperate enough to get in his car just to do some coke in the back seat, but I'm still skeptical. Something's really missing from this story. I'm really not convinced that this was about a thousand dollars.

She initially lied to the police, afraid of what would happen to her if she told them the truth. According to that article she's still in protective custody. This happened last summer! And this guy had two women acting as entertainment/enforcers and was pretty fucking nonchalant about having this woman's toe wrenched off. Sounds like a bigtime dealer to me. And I highly doubt she'd be convinced that he wanted a broke 35-year-old woman partying in his car for no reason.

I think she owed him more than $1000, and not necessarily in cash. I hope for her sake they sort this shit out and she cleans up while in hiding.

I'd like to say that I was just joking and mocking the guy. I don't know where the three people agreeing with me came from.

I've been pondering this all day, and if I had to guess, this is my overly imaginative theory:

This maiming was a message to someone. They kept the toe and sent it along with some regards. This woman is keeping her mouth shut as much as she can and is trying her hardest to stay out of it. :o
