| This is more of a general fandom thing then a badfic thing, but in a fandom where the cast is mostly a sausage fest, most of the fics will be retelling the plot of the fandom with a girl thrown in: Stand By Me fics that retell the movie with a girl in the boys' group, Outsiders fics that retell the book with a girl hanging out with the greasers (Most of the time being a sister of one of the characters), Lord of the Flies fics (Yes, LotF fanfiction exists) that retell the book with a girl on the island with the boys, etc. | |

| ...which probably springs from the fact that the majority of fanfic writers are gals, and most OCs are self-inserts. Doesn't make it better, of course. | |

So did Peter Jackson, actually!! He also forgot about Dol Amroth....hence, so did almost all LotR fanfiction writers. We should all know by now that if it wasn't in the film, it's not in fanfiction!

Oh dear... Just a guess, but do these girls usually dissolve the entire situation on the island, and help Jack find the path of righteousness and build the island into a civilisation that the Aztecs would have envied - all achieved through the medium of sex?

| The sons of Elrond do have a cameo in the LotR films: they are those two guys who repair Aragorn's broken sword (well, Isildur's, but you catch my drift). It's that scene where Bilbo's poem gets recited by Arwen (the second stanza):
From the ashes a fire shall be woken A light from the shadows shall spring Renewed shall be blade that was broken The crownless again shall be king
At least I think it was Bilbo who wrote that poem in the book.

Really? I didn't know that! I just saw them as "two random elves", but that makes sense, actually. Also I've just remembered that there was one story where the author did include Elrohir and Elladan - another Sue Bamfs Into Middle Earth fic - and all the way through, they teased them, and called them "Ronnie and the Brothers El" - which, of course, they were all perfectly okay with (and one, of course, fell in love with the author) ...if that's how the two are going to be represented then I think it's better if fanbrats don't include them. Perhaps they should consider themselves blessed that they've gotten away lightly. Look what happened to poor Legolas!

| I've seen Elladan and Elrohir appear in a few fics. Usually they're written to be carbon copies of Fred and George Weasley because everyone knows all male twins are practical jokers. | |

| I have dark forebodings regarding Lee Pace's Thranduil in the upcoming Hobbit film. Legolas isn't off the hook, either, poor boy.
The Sue magically appears in Middle-Earth fics are only gonna get worse, now that we have Lee Pace, Richard Armitage, Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch's voice (and he's Sauron!!!!), and Aidan Turner thrown in the mix....the horror.

| All children are mini-clones of their parents. It is impossible for children to develop a personality of their own, or even a personality of their own that could be completely different from their parents. | |

Except Mary Sue. Then she's special and unique and her parents just don't understand her (but she'll understand her kids just fine, and they'll be just like her).

| Doesn't Mary Sue usually have only one parent, who is generally hateful and abusive? I thought the parents were usually either divorced, or one of them (the nicer of the two and generally the one who does understand her) was usually dead. | |

| Well, you have to mention the absent parents / guardians trope that's so popular in YA fiction and fanfics based on it. | |

| If the main characters are kids in canon, they will always be aged up into teenagers in fanfic; usually between the ages of 15 through 18. | |

| All characters will be portrayed as students in an American high school even (especially?) if they are not of school age or American, and regardless of where the canon material is set. | |

No, it's always an uncle or aunt. There's a 90% chance of it being the uncle instead of the aunt, because uncles can rape the poor widdle Sue, and aunts can't. That's another one I can offer: Only men are capable of rape. Female rapists are an anomaly, and if they do exist, men should be happy to get raped, because they are more casual about sex, right?

| But isn't that because if a woman rapes a man then it's because he secretly has twu wub for the woman, and just needs to realise it, or something? (the same way all gay characters are actually straight and just need to be shown this fact...) | |

South Park parodies this double standard brilliantly in the episode where Ike has an affair with his teacher. It's really bizarre. Truly horrifying are books where this kind of behaviour (it's fine when it's female on male abuse) is portrayed as a-okay in literary abominations such as Fifty Shades of Grey or Hush, Hush (although the latter has a bigger case of "sexual assault and stalking are sexy", but why pick one monstrosity over the other when you can have it all!).

| To be fair, the same thing happened in Futurama. Just replace "girl" with "boy" and replace "boy" with "alien". | |

| Homosexuality is contagious. One character is gay (canon or not) and the next thing you know, every character of that gender is gay. I am all for yaoi, slash, fanny fun, and what-have-you. But you gotta draw the line somewhere, and that's where I draw it. | |

| When a grown man picks up a little boy who has no place to go, the two, spurred by how exquisitely beautiful the other is, will fall in love and have fully consensual and mutually enjoyable sex, leading to a healthy long-term romantic relationship.
When a minor is suffering from a deep sexual trauma that is causing age-inappropriate behavior, it's not really that complicated. The person is just a slut. Not that there's anything wrong with being a slut. Slutty, flirty characters are fun to be with, liven any situation, and can be paired off with people of any age with minimal groundwork. At least that's the case if the slutty person is male.
As of 1888, there were slave plantations with black slaves in England. The Scotland Yard chased after runaway slaves with dogs. Abolitionists kept safe houses for the escaped slaves and had an underground railway to, I don't know, Scotland?
