| So who's doing NaNo this year, and what are you planning on writing (if you do plan)?
I'm doing an Avengers/X-Men: Evolution crossover focusing on the Brotherhood joining SHIELD, and also dealing with the issue of mutant registration. Kind of like the recent Civil War event, but funnier.
This is only the second time I've written fanfic for NaNo, but I've been on an Avengers kick lately, and I thought I'd just roll with it rather than try to switch tracks and bash out an original fic. (I'll save that idea for January.) I'm all excited that there's a shiny new genre lounge for fanfic on the NaNo site!

| I'm doing a horror novel. This wasn't what I'd originally intended, but then I ended up hooked on this MMO, Zombie Pandemic. Zombies have, no pun intended, eaten my brains.
I'm writing about a group of survivors trying to get through the first five years post-Zed. I have most of my plot outlined. Plus I've started pulling together a soundtrack and I've made some faces using this tool so that I can use them for references.
I am just about ready to go!

| I'm doing it. I will either be trying (for the umpteenth time) to log all my story ideas, etc, into a "plotbunny graveyard" of sorts, with loose narrative connecting them or I'll be scrapping an old fanfic idea I had for the Hardy/Drew fandoms and using it to create an original story. Neither option is great, but hey, they might get me to the goal...and that'd be nice. | |

| I've finally decided on my story, it will be one of the two multi-chaptered fanfics I'm writing at the moment. That way when NaNo is done I can go back, edit them, and post feeling good about what I've put up instead of doing my usual worry about having suddenly pulled a plot point out of my ass. | |

| About 1000 words in. Just getting the main premise of the plot sketched out. It's going to be a romantic tramady centered around a mildly anti-social woman, who tries her best to get her family together for the holidays as it seems the world is ending around them, and a late thirdies-ish geologist she meets in the airport who is studying all of the natural disasters occurring world wide.
The world isn't actually ending, it's more like a huge adjustment of plates leading to earthquakes and freak storms all over the world. I am still working out if there will be a main antagonist or if nature itself will be the main antagonist.

| Total Words Written 9,262
I scrapped both of my earlier ideas and went with a crappy vampire novel. My goal is to at least be better than Twilight. I can't do math, but that doesn't matter, as that helps make the truths and myths surrounding my heroine even shakier.
"At This Rate You Will Finish On December 13, 2012" ...yeah. My writing has been sporadic so far. Few hundred words one day, and a couple thousand the next. Crap.

| Eh, I've made some progress. My anticipated finish date is now December 9. So that's better, I guess. I would prefer to be on-track, though. | |

| Has anyone seen this thread?
A writer who lost power for nine days during Hurricane Sandy is asking for an extension because of her circumstances. At first people were helpful, offering suggestions like writing by candlelight or waiting till Camp this summer. She whined about us being unsympathetic and that an artistic community should be more supportive.
It was pointed out to her how impossible it would be to reschedule NaNo, and still she whined.
In her latest post, she talks about being a published author (if she is, it's under a different name, because a Google search turned up nothing) and blasted us for our snark.
Honestly, I'd be a lot more sympathetic to her if she at least had a word count above zero. But she doesn't even have a novel listed. What's she been doing for the last two weeks? She could be creative and find a way to get a few words written a day, but no, she'd rather whine.
Edit: just to clarify, I'm not mad at her for not doing NaNo. That's her choice. I'm mad because she decided not to do NaNo and she's somehow making it our fault.

| Wow, definitely had not seen that. I tend to skip the forums, mostly, unless I really need some help figuring things out or just want to get some good ideas.
She seemed so unwilling to take any of the suggestions. But the handwriting one is a good idea - I took a notebook to work, since we aren't allowed to bring in thumb drives for the computers, and can't use personal email. I ended up writing about 3,000 words the first day just doing that. In some ways, I think handwriting it and then typing it may be better - it's a lot harder to get obsessed with the word count and so you just let things flow. You can pad later when you type it up.
Words Remaining 2,043
