If you haven't heard of Emily Giffin, she writes bestselling chick lit. Apparently, she also has the attention-whoring tendencies of a pubescent fanbrat and the same tendencies to rally her herd of followers into attacks on those who dislike her work.

Quote :
Personally there is no way that a 1 star review falls under my category of “most unfair things” but I guess that she should consider herself blessed for leading such a charmed life. Here Emily directly is linking to my review with her assistants plea for fans to comment and defend her against ”these” attacks. Personally, I don’t view my review as attacking the author so much as stating my opinion but I gather that is subjective so I’ll take the “attack” hit. However, the initial review by AvidReader does not remotely come close to attacking Emily in the least. With a battle cry like this, Emily’s fans got even more rabid in their attacks against me and her assistant (CrimznTider) continued to do battle. Most of these have been deleted by Amazon. ... So now I’m a stalker, bigot and an infant. There’s more mudslinging but I think this gives you the overall tone of the kind of comments that I was receiving from the fans of Ms. Giffin after she posted on her Facebook a link to my review. There was also tweets from her account as well regarding this.

The whole thing culminates in death threats. I'm torn between saddened and amused that this behavior carries from overwrought [insert fandom here] twits to professionally published books.

So now we know what happens when fourteen-year-old fanbrats grow up and become published authors. Absolutely nothing changes.

Or if anything does change, it's usually a change for the worse.

Once they get older then fourteen they turn their stuff into 'better' written porn.

Didn't Cassandra Clare (i.e., Cassie Claire of the 'Draco Trilogy' and 'The Very Secret Diaries') do the same when she got negative reviews on her published works? It seems to be a common thing amongst BNAs who make it in legitimate publishing. Apparently, the sense of entitlement that comes from thousands of squeeing fangirls never wears off.

And WD-40, Anne Rice has ALWAYS been a few straws short of w bale. I can't find it right now, but she threw a fit at one point when a cafe in New Orealeans was closed because she claimed that was where she meant 'Him' (Him being either Lestate, or possibly her late husband-which one was ever quite clear which).

Couldn't she have paid the cafe money if she wanted it to stay open forever and ever? Or does it take too much effect?

You'd think so, since by that point, she'd already had several million sellers. But apparently, whoever owned the building was supposed to keep it open forever (despite the fact it was in bad repair and lacked customers) because "It was where I met him!"

Someday, if I become a famous author, I'm going to sue the person who tore down my childhood home (never mind it was falling into wreckage) because "I spent the happiest days of my life there!"
