So I decided to browse the Warhammer section, for fun, and I found this:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]It's only two chapters, but it tells the story of Renee - a half-human half-Eldar hybrid (for those who don't know, Eldar are, basically, space elves).
- Quote :
- It is not standard procedure for an aspect warrior to be promoted to such a high rank without having a tie with at least some Farseer training, however, the Farseer who commanded before him had fallen in the same battle that Renée had lost the majority of his craftworld. Renée was promoted for being the eldest on the craftworld and having the most combat experience. Some say he is the best commander the craftworld has ever had.
Yeah, because the other Eldar wouldn't resent this at all...how old are these Eldar anyway, if this Renee is the eldest?
- Quote :
- He is a hybrid. Half Imperial human, half Eldar. Born from the forbidden love of an Imperial Guardsman and an Eldar Guardian. The whole craftworld shunned his Eldar mother into exile in the infinite mazes of the webway.
Wait, they cast his mother into exile, but promoted him to command of the whole craftworld??
- Quote :
- The only reason Renée lives today is the kindness of the craftworlds Farseer, the same Farseer who perished before Renée took command. He stopped the guardians just before they sent him into the webway. He saw something great in him, something that would define the Eldar as a race for all eternity.
So why isn't he taking the Path of the Seer, then?
- Quote :
- He was constantly picked on as a small child and often got into fights. He almost always won them.
Who'd have thought it? The OC winning almost every fight...
- Quote :
- No aspect commander wanted a bastard hybrid among their ranks. The only commander to take Renée on was Adrien, leader of the Warp Spiders. Adrien saw Renées lust to prove to the craftworld that he was not weaker than them, and that he had a stronger will than any Eldar on-board.
Which would have made him an idea Farseer.
- Quote :
- Within a month of training, Renée had already overtaken every other Eldar in his training group, excelling at a pace not seen since before the fall. His determination shone through and he earned respect among his fellow Spiders. Soon after, even the Banshees were respecting and revering him.
But they have different roles on the battlefield! Howling Banshees are close combat specialists, and Warp Spiders are deep strike specialists. Why would they train the same way?
- Quote :
- No-one knew what would happen to Renée in the warp, as no human has been recorded to have successfully navigate the warp unprotected.
Ooh, what do you think will happen?
- Quote :
- However, yet again he excelled in training and so far, no negative warp effects had come to light.
Well I never saw that coming.
The end of this chapter tells about how a battle resulted in the deaths of all but 55 Eldar on the craftworld, and the only surviving Farseer was unable to take command...guess who that role fell to.
On to chapter 2, where more French Eldar sit the war council...
- Quote :
- Pierre was the last remaining Dark Reaper.....
"No-one can match you in combat Pierre, we all know that." Pierre smiled to himself, pleased with the comment made towards him.
Again, Dark Reapers are heavy support specialists, and I don't think they'd necessarily have the same combat training as the close combat specialists.
- Quote :
- As the leader of the Howling banshees, Damien was an intimidating foe. Although he did not look like much, he is known to fight relentlessly and without rules, just like every other Banshee.
I could be wrong, but aren't the Howling Banshees all female?
- Quote :
- "Normal tactics would be to distract them from their stronger side and flank their weaker, but we all know that for a good plan to work, you need an enemy that plays by the rules. Orks, do no such thing. ..."
Yeah, it's such a bugger when the enemy doesn't play by the rules. Makes fighting a WAR difficult. You go to all that trouble to devise an intricate flanking manoeuvre, and the cheating scumbags refuse to fall for it!
Of course, Renee is the one who devises the combat strategy, of how they are going to assault a planet containing an Ork infestation, with no more than 55 Eldar (only a fraction of whom are aspect warriors - the aspect squads being severely depleted - no Swooping Hawks or Striking Scorpions are present either), no mention of vehicles, wraithlords or jetbikes, and a single psyker who "isn't ready to lead". God help them...
There are no more chapters, so I can only assume that the attack failed, the French Eldar were slaughtered, and the craftworld (whatever it is - the author never names it) is forever lost.
