I wonder how many people who'd recognize him as Mongo from Blazing Saddles or the dad from Webster even know he played football (let alone was a star player)?

I was just coming to check to see if Alex Karras had been posted.
He was also in the first Porky's movie.
I knew he played football, but didn't realize it was so long ago. He was awesome all around. RIP Mongo.
