Now this guy, James von Brunn, was a real nut - in 1981, he broke into the Federal Reserve armed with a revolver and sawed-off shotgun. When arrested, he claimed that he was there to "arrest" then-Fed Chairman Paul Volcker. He did 6 1/2 years in federal prison for that.

I was really tempted to blame this all on senility, given that he's 88 and all... but motherfucker's been crazy a lot longer than that, it seems.

My sister texted me about this during work. Holy shit. This is fucking insane. It was also my favorite museum. ;-;

I work less than 2 miles from the museum. I heard nothing but sirens all afternoon.

Damn, I wonder how long he's been waiting to do something stupid on his 88th birthday (88 tends to be a neo-nazi shorthand code for "Heil Hitler" and is used generally as an all around LOL LOOK AT ME I AM A DOUCHE TOO symbol). That's a pretty pathetic life if you ask me.

I feel sorry for the security guard. What did he or anyone else there have anything to do with... Anything? Respecting the dead is too much?

The security guard is a real hero by all accounts. Who knows how many lives he saved that day?


Now, maybe I'm a little too pedantic but why does the media refer to this guy as a white supremacist in the context of this story? He is both anti-Semetic and a white supremacist. But his crime (this time) was motivated by the anti-Semetic part of him, not the white supremacist part of him. While both parts are equally revolting, I think it would be more precise to refer to him as an anti-semetic.

What's really sad is that this kind of thing is becoming more common. Supposedly since Obama's election, white supremicist crimes have gone up dramatically.

Considering that his mindset and behavior towards minorities was considered widely acceptable until less than 40 years ago, I can see how he lasted this long. Most old white supremacists do, really.
