| I work at my local library, and always like checking out the Teen section. While I've read the occasional girl-oriented story, i usually go for darker stuff and sci-fi. Thus, the TimeRider series interested me at first.
The premise of the series is that three teens who shoudl have died were recruited by a mysterious agency to fix broken history, and stop ti from being altered by people for personal gain. Nine books are planned so far, and while the plots are cliched--they need to stop Nazi Germany from winning or the Civil War from continuing--so far there's nothing really to RAGE at.
Until you get to this detail.
"By reliving the highly documented events in New York City on 9/11, they can closely monitor history for any deviations—large or small."
They can't change what happened that day, but by reliving it over and over they can see other changes made to history and attempt to fix it.
I dunno whether to be offended or just disappointed. Either way, I passed the series by.

| Sounds like Groundhog Day. And if they can't change anything, what's the point of reliving it over and over? | |

| While the setup is dumb, I really fail to see why the inclusion of 9/11 is more rageworthy than the inclusion of the Holocaust or anything else for that matter. This is scarcely the crassest thing done to commemorate the tragedy and at least this one has the potential to be more educational than bumper stickers with empty platitudes printed on them. There are kids alive now who weren't even born when the attacks happened and I imagine some of them are going to find learning about it just as boring as learning about anything else that happened the past, not that I fucking get this approach. I guess I just don't see how anything can be worse than this coloring book. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| "The Kid's Book of Freedom... Rated P.G." IIRC, the book is filled with good Christian people preying and being the sort of people you should be, while all the nasty people are wearing the throbe. Good and bad, Christian and Muslim. Know your foe, kids. *angryface* | |

Good and bad, Christian and Muslim. Know your foe, kids. *angryface* Given the content of the coloring book, that's a good typo. | |
