| I gotta take exception to Hathor the Cow Goddess being on the list. If they'd actually read the flippin' comic, they would see that the cow face is a mask, just as her husband is in costume as Superdad. I don't agree with all of Hathor's politics--she is a champion of unassisted childbirth, for one thing--but she has a lot of pointed things to say about women being told to feed their babies in a room where other people are defecating because breasts are only acceptable when they are being presented for titillation of adults; the craziness of a culture that requires long, maddening, dangerous trips in a car on a freeway to do the tasks of daily living; the unethical practices of formula manufacturers; etc. Hathor is in reruns now anyway; the artist's new comic is here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |

| To be perfectly blunt, both agenda comics and fetish comics tend to suck equally for the same reason: They're one-trick ponies. If you're not 100% with the message, even the best of them get repetitive fast. | |

Yeah... Anne Onymous' argument that The Wotch isn't a festish comic would hold a lot more water if something actually happened every once in a while instead of the same transformation plots over and over.

But having a good cause isn't funny. "The unethical practices of formula manufacturers" is not exactly a laugh-a-minute topic. It may be played dramatically by someone with a fair measure of talent, but she's not taking that road here. She's trying instead to milk (ugh) the idea for cheap laughs and failing. Like Freezer said, one-trick pony, and not a good pony at that. And if she's since moved on, all the power to her, but all the more reason her old work is open to satire. also it is an Internet article calm down Man, I haven't read Faithmouse since the last days of PoE. I'd go through for a nice snark of it, but IIRC, he had a habit of never providing an archive and turning page links into kitten pictures after about three weeks. | Yeah, it isn't really a comic comic anyway, more of a slice-of-life with editorials and occasional picture stories ("The Zoops," "The Love Hormone," etc.). The people I correspond with who also like both of the artist's comics have much the same reaction I do to many of the strips about Hathor's home life--wry recognition. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. (I think her kids and mine would get along very, very well. The horror.) Back on topic: VG Cats is exasperating because it's so uneven. You get hilarious strips like the one where the goofy blue cat manages to break everything in the men's bathroom and work himself into a running screaming panic while still peeing. Then you get strips that are about as funny as a multi-car pileup, like the one in which a vivisected Winnie the Pooh begs Piglet for death or the one that features the in-frame murder of an abducted infant. Speaking of death, VG Cats is a bit of a one-trick pony about that. Apparently the only way to say "This character is chronically underused," "Man Ariel sings horribly in that Disney game," or pretty much anything else involves death.

Hathor is a fucking lunatic. It's one thing to have a cause and champion for it in a sane way, but it's another things to be a shitty mother who is passionate about nonissues and weird shit and plaster said obsessions all over the internet for everyone to see using psuedoscience and bullhonkey to back up your craziness. And people who remember the Baby Faith thread remember that I have a serious problem with using your babies as a political statement. KEEP CHURNING OUT YOUR 100% ALL NATURAL BABIES, HATHOR, BECAUSE YOU NEED MORE EXAMPLES OF HOW "UN-SCHOOLING", BREAST-FEEDING UNTIL WELL AFTER YOUR KIDS ARE OLD ENOUGH TO TALK, AND HAVING YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY SLEEP TOGETHER EVERY NIGHT IS PERFECTLY HEALTHY AND NOT AT ALL WARPED. She also wears the mask IRL to rallies and shit Also, jesus what the fuck [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Edit: Forgot one more thing, she had a recipe for breast milk cookies as a comic once which ranks up there alongside the semen cookbook.

| Now, see, that comic was the one I was originally going to cite as one of her most wryly funny because it's Hathor falling out of love with her superhero schtick. Every breastfeeding mom has been there: newborn is grafted to you like a baby gorilla on his mama's back because if you put him down for one second he goes off like a siren, you never had the chance to get dressed, you're tired, you're disheveled, and you wish to God the kid would get back on the breast, even though you're as sore as a raw steak and badly need a shower, because you're leaking like hell. Luckily this stage passes fairly quickly. She also has a few showing an older baby's tendency to pop off the breast in any given situation to give the people around him a big milky grin. No matter who they are. As for the other stuff you mentioned . . . I prefer coming here for the lulz so I won't get into it. | |

| Hathor kind of irks me because it reminds me of how some mothers (given birth at home/cloth diapering/sleeps with baby in same bed) looks down on others (had baby at hospital/disposable diapers/formula feeding). I understand that some ways are better than others (I advocate for breast feeding when you can do it) but people need to realize that some women don't have the luxury of going au naturale with everything. Sometimes your insurance won't cover having a midwife so you'll have to put up with the OB. Sometimes you can't afford to stay at home, especially if you're a single mother. And sometimes women don't want to go through pain, and would rather have the epidural. Honestly, as long as mother and baby are safe and healthy, does all that other stuff really matter in the long run? Did our ancestors who gave birth in the field really enjoy the birthing experience or would they have preferred our modern methods? And for the record, no, I'm not a mom, but I hope to be someday. | |

Is...that what it's supposed to be? Because it honestly makes absolutely no sense to me. There's no context, it's just her standing with her baby in a half-foot of water and her tits leaking. I know I've been using the phrase "Lynchian fever dream" a lot lately, but dangit, it's relevant! On VGCats: Violence is funny. Especially when it happens to small children. I'm more saddened by their continued decline into biannual updating. ETA: Is this the one you were talking about?

| Sorry to necropost, but while I was sifting through some old journal entries, I found a link to the ugliest comic in the world evar. No, seriously, this comic was made with a program that is the unholy spawn of Poser and the Down's. Please direct your attention to the mysterious seam running down everyone's faces, to the stunted Lego-like bodies, to the perpetually parted lips of the chronic mouth-breather. If Mr. Potato Head were to be anthropomorphized, this is what would result. The best part? It's a Christian comic, one that seems to be trying to prove that fundies have idiotic stoner conversations too. Look out, Jack Chick, there's a new publication in town, and they're packing eye-gouging horror! | |

| Squidi. The comic is only (at its best) mildly funny, and the author is a certifiable loon. He incited his readers to spam PA's forums and try to DOS their server because some PA forum member(s) had avatars that looked remotely like some of his pixel art. Kind of. If you squinted. You'll probably have to go to the Wayback Machine for all of the details, but the wank was beyond epic.
Aside from a paranoia level above 9000, he has a sense of self-importance that defies belief, and which has no base in reality whatsoever.
I'm really waiting to see what happens when his attempt at laying claim to just about every game mechanic in existence runs into, say EA. Or Microsoft. Examples here.
