Okay, guys. I thought it was about time that we had a Scariest Moments in Video Games thread. We had one on GAFF and HOBFF, so I think this is way overdue for WGW.
Also, this can be anything from Dead Space to Mario.
Silent Hill
-Mumblers. Usually anything that's a child monster scares me.
-In the school's locker room when you enter and hear a banging on the locker, open it, and a cat pops out. I think my heart stopped for a second.
Silent Hill 2
-Pyramid Head
-The part before you enter the apartments and find
Spoiler:
a bloody corpse in the alley. When you start running back towards the street a fucking monster comes out from under the car.
I know I should have expected that, but still...
-Going into one of the prison cells only to
Spoiler:
try to open the door, and you're locked inside.
-In the prison when you hear the heavy breathing and whispering.
-The catacombs
Spoiler:
Two Pyramid Heads
-Down that long hallway when you have Maria as an escort only to realize that Pyramid Head is right behind you
-Random game show in the elevator
-In the hotel when
Spoiler:
You have to empty all of your inventory (except Mary's picture and her letter) onto that shelf in order to get onto the elevator. No flashlight or anything. There are still mosters about.
Silent Hill 3
-Bloody Mirror Room.
-The Other World of Silent Hill 3.
-Robbie the Rabbit
-
Spoiler:
"Monsters? They look like monsters to you...?"
-Before the final boss battle when
Spoiler:
Heather vomits up a fetus and eats the fetus.
-The entire game. Really.
Silent Hill 4
-The twins. I hated them so, so much.
-The giant Eileen head in the hospital.
-Cynthia haunting the subways system.
-Robbie the Rabbit
Clock Tower 3
-Sledgehammer killing the little girl. Not only that, but the way he says "Alyssa" when chasing the main character is just fucking creepy.
-Corroder. He put a man and his mother in an acid bath
Spoiler:
alive
There's more, but hey, I don't won't to post everything. That and I have a headache. So go ahead a post some moment you guys jumped at, or just scream "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT", the the controller across the room, and curl up into a fetal position.

ETERNAL DARKNESS
THAT FUCKING BATHROOM SCENE
HOLY FUCK
also hmmm I wonder what happens if I let my sanity hit zerrrOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH MY GOOOOOODDD
I'm really fucked up by atmospheric creepy rather than "OOGA BOOGA BOOGA I'M A MONSTER" scares, so Ravenholm from Half-Life 2 scared the shit out of me. The two headed baby monster from Silent Hill 4 wasn't scary while you were fighting it...it was the few seconds before it charged when it would turn toward you and POINT that made me flip out.
CLASSIC SCARES: *The music box house in Majora's Mask. * That Mask enemy in Super Mario 2 that chased you when you picked up a key. * Psychonautssssssss: HELP US MILLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I sat there, in awe and terror, with goosebumps, going "What... the... fuck" for a good three or four minutes, trying to decipher what they were saying, just ... watching them. Watching them with my mouth hanging open.
Not okay.

You are now hearing the scream of a poison headcrab in your head.
The ragged breathing of a poison zombie is 1000000x more unsettling than the Witch's crying in L4D.

THIS A MILLION TIMES also I liked it when the sanity effects REALLY fucked with your head. Like, turned down the TV's volume or whatever. THAT was just weird.

This. Though I think I had already seen her memory explaining the
Spoiler:
burned-down orphanage and lots of dead kids
so it didn't take long for me to get what was happening. Still downright fucking disturbing though, and awesome that something in a game like Psychonauts can actually be so dark n' creepy.
For me? Let's see...
CONDEMNED: CRIMINAL ORIGINS
All of it. Every second of this fucking game. Worst parts though had to be the farmhouse basement (infinitely respawning enemies who randomly appear and run around silently while you're being forced to put away your weapon and thus are completely vulnerable while having to focus closely on reading some tiny text on the walls/floors FTL)
CONDEMNED 2: BLOODSHOT
Not nearly as scary as the first one, because it takes on a more Hollywood, action-y approach. Still has its creepy moments though - the bear chase is hella intense, and those bastard fucking dream sequences where everything is covered in tar and those zombies and crawler things keep pulling themselves out of the walls

Silent Hill
I was taking a break at the halfway mark, playing without the lights on and all of a sudden my cat walked up and scared the bejesus out of me. I was really jumpy just walking around in the fog.
Dead Space
The whole game. I did the same here without lights, playing it alone and turned up really loud. Something about deserted (or not) space stations just really freaks me the funk out. Take your pick from any one of these.

Mass Effect 2
Spoiler:
Either Kelly or Lilith getting liquified by the Collectors. I mean, maybe I'm a wuss but the fact that they're clearly still alive when the process starts just freaks me right out.

The teleporting mannequins were creepy but didn't actually get to me all that much compared to some other stuff in the game.
The only thing in that level that really stood out for me would be the guys pretending to be mannequins Aarrgghhhh.

Well, ladies and gentlemen.
Missingno.
It was a Pokemon glitch that made a wierd gltich pokemon show up. Sometimes it was a nightmarish mass of jumbled-up sprites named missingno, but depending on what the last letter in you name was, it could be anything from a mew to a Lavender Tower ghost.
My username ended with Y. I got the ghost.
This scared the shit out of me when I was ten.

That that game would make this thread was just assumed. I've only gotten halfway through it because EVERY TIME I play it I have to do more laundry. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

That was more of a kick the dog moment for me. Sure, they have been doing the usual bad guy stuff, attacking towns, kidnapping, trying to take over/destroy the whole galaxy, whatever. I've been bored by that crap since Mario 64.
After watching that, I couldn't remember any villains I had wanted to so thoroughly and brutally terminate as the Collectors. Especially considering through the first half of the game, any conversation with Kelly showed her to be a Totally Nice Person.
I didn't feel like conserving ammo after that.

System Shock and System Shock 2, the entire game. Particularly System Shock because of the awkward controls for looking up and down.

I... don't do well with horror games. See, it's not so much the scares (though that's part of it) so much as the feeling of utter, utter helplessness inherent in a situation where there's hoards of eldritch monsters all coming for you and all you have is a lighter. I handle eldritch monsters much better when I'm equipped with a broadsword and a snazzy red coat.

I was at the bottom of the well. I fell through an illusionary floor tile... into the center of a room filled to the brink with Gibdos. I was also seven.
It was not pleasant.

Clock Tower
I was attempting to beat the game again to get a different ending, so keep in mind I'd already seen a lot of the bullshit this game can throw at you. But I had not yet experienced this feature: the game randomizes not only the location of certain rooms, but also the locations of plot-important items. For a while I thought I was just going nuts, because none of the rooms were where I remembered them being. Then I checked behind a curtain to get a key item I knew was there and... SCISSORMAN!
I start running, with no idea where I was or why the universe had suddenly gone insane, and need to hide now. I end up in a bedroom with only three useful features: a mirror where your reflection attempts to choke you if you look into it, a parrot in a cage that flies around the room pecking you while cursing "I'll get you!" over and over if you let it out, and a bed. A bed that I could hide under, the game informs me. Fuck it, I'm desperate and Scissorman is pretty stupid. So I hide under the bed, and moments afterward Scissorman busts in and starts looking around. Thankfully he sucks at hide-and-seek, so after brandishing his scissors menacingly for a while he starts to walk out the door. Just before he leaves, a most terrible sound clip blasts from my speakers as the parrot squawks out,
"She's under the bed!"
Haunting Ground
Daniella. If you've played the game, I can stop right there.
If you haven't, she's a maid who, during the first arc of the game, seems to have no emotions whatsoever. It's during the second arc when things get fun. She sneaks into Fiona's room and starts feeling her up while she's asleep, culminating with punching her in the uterus, smashing her own forehead into the window repeatedly until it breaks, ripping off a katana-sized piece of glass, and starts chasing you while giggling maniacally. She's lightning-fast, can teleport to pop out and get you, does huge damage, finds your clever hiding places with ease, and is just all-around bad news. And then there is the ghastly roar/hiss she makes when she spots you...
Also: as a random note, there is one thing I've always loved about the Silent Hill games: the game keeps track of how quickly you're pressing the attack button. If you're panicked and start mashing on the button to try to kill an enemy faster, your damage goes straight down the toilet.
