So, I side with Barack Obama on most issues in the 2012 Presidential Election? Like, over 90%? Well shit, I'm pleased. I knew I'm a staunch Obama supporter for a reason beyond "Mitt Romney is dickcheese".

She's the Green Party candidate. I'd never heard of her before this, either.

Oh, you're right. It's Randi Shannon of Iowa who has decided to form her own alternative government.
Quote :
For months, Randi Shannon has been campaigning in an important Iowa Senate race, telling people why as the GOP-preferred candidate she's a better choice than Democratic incumbent Liz Mathis to represent Linn County's District 34.

Shannon has now decided not only that she was the better candidate, but also that she has found a better government, and she dropped out of the race to become "senator" for the "Republic of the United States."
Would it surprise anyone here to learn that she's an avid Ron Paul supporter and that she believes that the Federal Government of the USA lost its legitimacy when the 14th Ammendment was passed?

90% Obama, but 89% Stein.

Frighteningly, I've got 55% Ron Paul. I'm always terrified when I agree with Ron Paul. It's worse than agreeing with Mikey.

Obama 94%. Not surprising-I voted for him before, and I'm planning on voting for him again.

The other 6% was divided between Jill Stein (who I'd never heard of till today) and some other guy I'd also never heard of till today. Apparently, that was mostly on environmental issues.

I apparently side with Jill Stein as well. In a way, not too surprising...but I still vote Democratic a lot. Just feels like the Green Party will never actually have a fighting chance and a number of my views are also shared by the Democratic party.

Welcome to Canada:

Green - most sensible, and rather liked, but no one votes for them because no one else votes for them
NDP - Slightly more central than green, never in power because votes split between idealistic green voters and pragpatic NDP voters
Liberals - Criminal centrists with no functioning leader
Conservatives - Criminals. Voter base is "ignorant people who don't know how evil the conservatives are"
Bloc Qubecois - "N/A"

Mitt Romney has said something--at one time or another--that you agree with. That's no surprise. Mitt Romney's main principle is that Mitt Romney should be President. The opinions he expresses depend on that.

(He also believes that Mitt Romney has the right to make money in any and every way he deems fit, and that he should keep said money in any and every way possible, and that the common folk have no right to know about or comment on this. I guess we'll see whether he considers these more or less important than becoming President when or if he releases his tax returns.)

I got a Tie with Barack Obama and Jill Stein. My reaction was also, "Who's Jill Stein?"
Then I went through the questions themselves, comparing my answers with the politician's answers, and found that I side much more with Gary Johnson than any of the other candidates. The candidates that I ended up siding with most were the ones giving more simple yes/no answers. (that's the weird thing about this... you do the short yes/no answers and the politicians have much lover versions of yes/no, that the database doesn't count as being the same answer.)

The Guardian is liveblogging Mitt Romney's visit. Latest post as of now:
Quote :
20m ago

Escalation alert: It appears that Mitt Romney's disparaging of Olympic preparations in London has sparked an international incident between the mayor's office of Salt Lake City, Utah, and 10 Downing St. The two sides are now trading snark like something out of the Gawker comments section.

After David Cameron responded to Mitt Romney's dis of London's Olympics by saying it's easy to run an Olympics in "the middle of nowhere," BuzzFeed's enterprising McKay Coppins reached out to the mayor of Salt Lake City, host of the 2002 Winter Games run by Romney and presumably the middle of nowhere in question.

"(David Cameron) can stop by any time," a spokesperson for SLC Mayor Ralph Becker told Coppins in a statement. "We'd love to have him and are happy to send a map so he doesn't run into any trouble locating the middle of nowhere."

What do you have to say to that, Cameron?
(I grew up in a suburb of "the middle of nowhere" Razz)

Well, I suppose when you live in London, pretty much any place smaller seems like 'The Middle of Nowhere.'

Though coming on the heels of Romney's 'Obama doesn't understand our Angelo-Saxon Heritage' thing (IIRC, Obama's mother's family came from Ireland), it seems a trifle odd.

Still-five him five minutes. He'll change his mind.

Here's another Romney referrence from the link that may annoy the British:

Quote :
19:28 BST

Joshua Keating remembers what Mitt Romney said about Great Britain in his 2010 book No Apology: The Case for American Greatness, and it's severely not nice! Really, we're starting to feel a little ill-used here. So what if Britain features small roads? Romney wrote:

Quote :
England [sic] is just a small island. Its roads and houses are small. With few exceptions, it doesn't make things that people in the rest of the world want to buy. And if it hadn't been separated from the continent by water, it almost certainly would have been lost to Hitler's ambitions. Yet only two lifetimes ago, Britain ruled the largest and wealthiest empire in the history of humankind. Britain controlled a quarter of the earth's land and a quarter of the earth's population.

Can Mitt Romney single-handedly scotch the special relationship in the space of a three-day visit?

What will he say when he attends the opening ceremonies tomorrow? "Boo! The Olympics at my house are better than this"?

It should be fun to watch him weasel out of that one.

Does Romney not want to be president and is intentionally sabotaging himself, or is he really that horrendously dumb?

We just don't know.

Yes, because the Brits totally vote in the US presidential election. Come on, guys, have some perspective.

Romney has very strong appeal on the fact that he's not Obama, much as Kerry was a serious contender based largely on the "anyone but Bush" vote in 2004. As such, he needs to appeal to his base as much as possible to ensure a reliable turnout well before trying to appeal to moderates, (which of course he does, infamously trying to appease everyone). Acting as if disparaging Britain is career suicide is really dumb; he can apologize when he's president, and if he loses, he'll never have to.

Also, to your average American, relations with the UK are hardly a pressing issue.

Romney chooses Congressman Ryan for VP on a Saturday morning during the Olympic. I guess he's hoping the public don't notice what he's done for a while. Meanwhile, liberals across the USA rejoice.
