Mom charged with running a "concentration camp" for her kids and pets

Found this gem, ironically enough, on the Something Awful thread about the case of the mom who forced her son to kill his pet hamster.

children and family pets, sometimes forcing the children to witness her
torturing animals to death, prosecutors said.

“This is a case where a mother subjected her children to the most
unimaginable and horrific living conditions that I have ever seen,”
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said. “These kids were
beaten, they were starved, they lived in absolutely horrendous
conditions within their own household and this was done intentionally
by the mother.”

Apparently, animals were not only tortured and killed by the mom in full view of the kids, but she refused to feed the children anything substantial or healthy:

At one point, he brought his sisters frozen TV dinners, but later
learned that his mother had confiscated the food.

Other food in the house was the exclusive domain of the children’s mother, the prosecutor said he was told.

She also tried to make one of her toddlers stop crying by slapping the child - repeatedly.

Not much else to say, just wondering what the fuck this woman's major malfunction is about.

Hey, I'd be happy to eat PB&J sandwiches and macaroni and cheese. Once they've eaten nothing but boiled potatoes and ramen, that's when it gets bad. But then still, better than no food at all.

Considering Melissa claimed to be 31 and married, how creepy is it imagining her as this mother, slaving away over pony pics and Hercules AMVs while her children die of malnutrition? "These vegetables are for someone who will appreciate them! They're not FOR you!"

Seriously, that choice of food suggests either severe financial issues or a really creepy psychology--feeding them comfort food as she tortures them is just fucking messed up. I mean, it's not like this isn't fucking messed up in OTHER ways, but...yeah, it's telling.

You may not know that a while back we had a discussion where certain members held the opinion that you can't start early enough with physical punishment, and that I've been known to completely lose my shit over that. If I was being snarky, it was towards myself and, uh, those people.

If they got sandwiches and macaroni in the concentration camps, I don't know what they were complaining about.
